The Ordinary Day Project was started by Kira Kim, a stay at home Mum and expat wife living in Hangzhou, China. After realizing that she had been battling debilitating depression for most of her adult life, she started to take pictures of her everyday existence as a way to see beauty in the mundane. A self-described perfectionist, this perfectionism is what drove her deeper into depression as she tried to shape her whole world into a society-prescribed norm. The Ordinary Day Project is here to break the idealism that is ingrained in all of us by showing average, every day people living average, every day lives. Hopefully you’ll be able to see, as Kira did, that there is beauty and reassurance in seeing that so many other people are as “normal” and “boring” as you are.
